The Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA) is looking to hire a Communications Manager to join our small but powerful communications team on a full-time, permanent basis. Reporting to the Senior Director of Communications, our ideal candidate will help CanREA operationalize our strategic objectives through impeccable, engaging, effective and efficient communications efforts, including brand management, awareness building, marketing, media relations, speaking engagements, events and more.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Writing and copy-editing (announcements, website content, newsletters, social media, etc) for CanREA’s B2B audiences.
  • Carrying out digital marketing and promotional efforts for CanREA events, Clean Energy Jobs Canada website, and other revenue-generation programs, including managing CanREA’s Google Ads Grant.
  • Managing CanREA’s Google Analytics account, which means measuring performance indicators, conversions and more, providing quarterly reports and suggesting improvements.
  • Editing all public-facing comms (newsletters, signage, web content, etc) to provide reliable quality control and consistently reinforce the CanREA brand.
  • Interviewing subject-matter experts, ghost-writing (blogs, social posts, policy updates, statements, etc) and copy-editing technical or specialized material.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.

The ideal candidate will possess the following education, experience and skills:

  • University degree in communications, journalism, literature or marketing (or in another field combined with relevant experience in communications and journalism).
  • 5-7 years of experience as a professional communicator in journalism or communications at a non-profit organization or association. (Experience within the electricity, energy or environment sector is considered an asset.)
  • Interest in renewable energy and in helping Canada achieve net-zero to mitigate climate change.
  • Bilingualism, defined here as a basic proficiency in French, and the ability to write and edit exceptionally well in English. We are looking for an expert manipulator of grammar, syntax and punctuation for clarity, style and tone.
  • Experience in carrying out digital marketing campaigns, such as managing a Google Ads Grant and LinkedIn advertising campaigns, and measuring the results.
  • Demonstrated experience in proofreading and enforcing a style guide and branding guide to ensure quality control and brand consistency for the organization.
  • Journalism experience or experience in interviewing subject-matter experts and ghost-writing for them (such as blogs, social posts, statements).
  • Comfortable working on technical content, written by experts for a specialized industry audience.
  • Comfortable learning new digital tools and technologies. Knowledge of comms apps (MailChimp, WordPress, Hootsuite, Canva, etc) is a strong asset.
  • Must be a team player who collaborates well with others and thrives in a respectful, collegial, supportive work environment.
  • Curiosity and an eagerness to learn is paramount.
  • Experience working effectively in a remote capacity is required.
